Marion County Quick Facts
Marion County Jail Overview
The Marion County jail sits at 4000 Aumsville Highway SE in Salem. Sheriff Joe Kast leads the Sheriff's Office, which runs the jail. The facility is a 151,000 square foot structure with a capacity of 400 adults in custody. Commander Tad Larson manages daily jail operations. The building uses a "direct supervision" model, which means deputies are assigned inside the housing units rather than watching from a booth. This approach gives staff closer contact with inmates at all times.
Marion County is the host county for the Oregon state capital. Salem is the largest city, followed by Keizer, Silverton, Stayton, and Woodburn. The jail serves all of these communities. Anyone arrested by the Marion County Sheriff, Salem Police, Keizer Police, or other local agencies in the county gets booked into this facility. The jail holds people awaiting trial, those serving county time, and inmates waiting for transfer.

Marion County Jail Web Viewer
Marion County runs an online jail web viewer that lets you search for current and recent inmates. The tool is free to use. Go to jailviewer.co.marion.or.us to start your search. You can enter a last name, first name, booking start date, and booking end date. The viewer returns a list of matching inmates with their charges and booking details.
The Marion County jail web viewer supports wildcard searches. Use the percent sign (%) as a wildcard to match partial names. For example, type "M%" in the last name field to see all inmates whose last name starts with M. This is useful when you are not sure of the exact spelling. You can also narrow results by date range to find bookings from a specific time period.
The viewer does not show booking photos. In line with Oregon House Bill 3273, Marion County stopped releasing booking photos to the public on January 1, 2022. The rest of the booking data remains visible on the jail roster. Names, charges, booking dates, and custody status are all shown.
Note: The jail web viewer covers current and past bookings, so you can search even after someone has been released from Marion County.

Public Records and Marion County Jail
Oregon's Public Records Law, ORS 192.311 to 192.478, covers all records kept by the Marion County Sheriff's Office. This includes the jail roster, booking logs, and arrest data. Anyone can request these records. You do not need to live in the county or have a connection to the case. The agency must respond within five business days under ORS 192.324.
Some records are exempt from disclosure. Medical data about inmates is protected. Details from active investigations may be withheld under ORS 192.345 and ORS 192.355. But standard booking data is almost always available. The Sheriff's Office must explain any denial in writing and cite the specific statute. You can appeal to the Marion County District Attorney or file a petition in circuit court if your request is turned down.
Marion County Community Corrections
Marion County runs a community corrections program through the Sheriff's Office. This program handles probation and post-prison supervision for people who have served their time. The program works alongside the jail to manage offenders in the community. It covers drug testing, check-ins, and referrals to treatment programs. Visit co.marion.or.us/SO/Probation for details.
Community corrections records are separate from jail records. If you are looking for information about someone on probation in Marion County, contact the community corrections office. The Sheriff's Office oversees both the jail and the probation division. Staff can direct you to the right department based on what you need.
